The higway contributes to the regional development, improves an important TEN-T road route between Dublin and Galway, relieve congestion from some towns. The project gave priority to preserving the landscape and protecting the environment: a total of 48 wildlife crossings were built.

The motorway lead to socio-economic benefits to the region: improve journey times, reduce accident rates and have some positive environmental and health effects as a result of removing traffic from towns and villages on the existing road N6.

N6 Highway is a public-private partnership project that includes the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a toll highway. This 56 km highway has two lanes per direction and connects Dublin with Galway. The highway has a free flow toll system. The road, which is a key component of Ireland's National Development Plan, is one of the country's largest civil engineering projects
