Water is essential to help communities, and their people, in their economic development. As an international developer with a track record of more than 100 water desalination plants, Sacyr is always pushing the envelope to positively impact communities all over the world.
Our water projects have been internationally recognized. For example, our desalination plant in Aguilas (Spain) is the second largest in Europe. The surrounding area in the region of Murcia has earned the name of 'the crop garden of Europe', and our strategically-located plant constitutes a key factor for high-yielding agriculture in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia and Almeria. In fact, 95% of the desalinated water from our plant is used for agricultural purposes, providing an approximate irrigation capacity of 16,000 hectares.
The Aguilas-Guadalentín desalination plant features key distribution and pumping systems for different users as well as advanced systems for the diffusion and dissolution of brine in the sea, which help protect our oceans. With projects like this we are helping farmers and local communities to boost their economy while protecting the environment with innovative solutions, all signature elements of our group.
